The ’94 boys’ lacrosse team

On this day 26 years ago, the boys’ lacrosse team clipped Babylon in overtime, 9-8.

After a 1-1 opening frame, the Panthers exploded for five goals in the second while shutting out the Bears to take a 6-1 lead into the half. The Brook responded by carving into their deficit with a 4-1 third quarter to trail 5-7 heading into the fourth. They still trailed 7-8 with one minute left in regulation, when Jonas Fischer knotted the score to send the game into overtime. Just 49 seconds into the first extra period, Sam Hanchett found the back of the net and the defense ensured it was all the offense the Bears needed in both overtime periods.

Jim Bickley, Spencer Niebuhr, and Hanchett led the Bears with 2 goals apiece, while Hanchett and Liam Banks added scores. Hanchett also notched 5 assists for the Blue & White.

The Bears went on to win the program’s first Suffolk County Championship later that season.
