On Friday, Jyles Etienne ’17 took second place at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a leap of 7′ 1″, clearing the 7-foot barrier in his 7th straight competition and 13th overall as a Hoosier.

The junior passed at the first four heights before clearing 6′ 10.75″ on his second attempt to secure at least third place. He soared over 6′ 11.75″ on his third attempt to clinch at least second place, then bested 7′ 1″ on his second attempt before faltering at 7′ 2.25″.

Oklahoma’s Vernon Turner, who owns a career best of 7′ 7.75″, also finished at 7′ 1″, but clipped Etienne based on his fewer attempts at 7′ 1″.

Etienne and the Hoosiers are back in action this weekend as Indiana hosts the Gladstein Invitational.
