On Friday, Jyles Etienne ’17 took 2nd place at the Vanderbilt Invitational with a leap of 7′ 1″, clearing the 7-foot barrier in his seventh straight competition and 13th overall as a Hoosier.
The junior passed at the first four heights before clearing 6′ 10.75″ on his second attempt to secure at least 3rd place. He soared over 6′ 11.75″ on his third attempt to clinch at least 2nd place, then bested 7′ 1″ on his second attempt before faltering at 7′ 2.25″.
Oklahoma’s Vernon Turner, who owns a career best of 7′ 7.75″, also finished at 7′ 1″, but clipped Etienne based on his fewer attempts at 7′ 1″.
Etienne and the Hoosiers are back in action this weekend as Indiana hosts the Gladstein Invitational.
