On Saturday, the swim team took on some of New York’s best at the Horace Mann Invitational in the Bronx.

Despite bringing one of the smallest teams in the field and missing two of their top swimmers, the girls finished 7th out of 12 teams while the boys secured a 4th place finish, besting the likes of Masters, Leman, and Columbia Prep.

Numerous individuals shone for the girls as Sarah Vincent took 2nd in the 50 freestyle (27.46) and 7th in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.69), Amelia Griffin 3rd in the 50 freestyle (27.70) and 7th in the 100 backstroke (1:11.16), and Sofia Arrascue 3rd in the 100 backstroke (1:08.12) and 4th in the 100 freestyle (1:00.93).

On the boys’ side, Hunter Markowitz was a double-winner in the 100 freestyle (49.04) and 100 breaststroke (1:01.91) while Marcus Calero took 5th in the 50 free (24.14) and 8th in the 100 freestyle (54.38), Robbie Fehrenbach 7th in the 100 butterfly (106.71), and Oliver Griffin 3rd in the 100 backstroke (1:03.74).

Griffin, Markowitz, Fehrenbach, and Calero then joined forces to take 2nd in the 200 medley relay in 1:47.01 and 3rd in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:37.58.

The Bears are back in the pool on Jan. 27 in a non-league match-up at West Islip.
