On this day 54 years ago, Robin Lingle ’60 took 3rd place in the mile at the 44th NCAA Championships held in Berkeley, CA.

UCLA’s Bob Day, who a year earlier became the 12th American to break the four-minute mile barrier, took gold in 4:01.8, BYU’s Bob Delaney was 2nd in 4:02.4, and Lingle earned the bronze for Missouri in 4:02.5.
