On this day 17 years ago, Will Lingle finished 5th in the 800 at the New York State Federation State Championship, one day after finishing runner-up in the NYSPHSAA Class C/D Championship.

The senior flew to a personal record time of 1:55.80 in his final high school race to finish 5th overall against the best from New York’s private, public, and parochial schools.

He continued his career at Wheaton College where he earned All-American status as a freshman, taking 5th in the NCAA Division III National Championship in a blazing time of 1:51.94.
