The ’46 baseball squad
On this day 73 years ago, the baseball team topped St. Dominic’s, 4-2, thanks to timely hitting and a solid pitching performance from Jim High. Here is the recap of the game from Newsday:

Stony Brook Downs St. Dominic’s, 4 to 2
Smashing for two runs in the sixth inning, Stony Brook School toppled St. Dominic’s of Oyster Bay, 4-2, in the final season test for both diamond clubs.
Stony Brook, leading 2-1 going into the end of the sixth, pounded across the winning marks as John Buyers and Dick Virtue singled and Skip Lewis smashed a double to send both home.
Jim High held the Saints to six hits. Four of the six blows were for extra bases. Both pitchers exhibited fine control, High issuing only one walk and Jim Moore, the loser, giving two. High fanned only four, Moore sending down nine via the strike-out route.
