On this day 15 years ago, Juanita Gonzalez turned in her second 20-strikeout game of the season in an 11-0 victory over Mercy.
The junior fireballer, who went on to become Long Island’s career strikeout leader, earned 20 of a possible 21 outs via the K, and allowed just one hit in the complete game shutout that helped the Bears improve to 10-5 on the season. She also went 3-for-5 at the plate, including 2 home runs and a double, to send home a career-high 5 RBIs.
The Bears went on to win the program’s first League Championship that season.
