The team during the 1995 County Championship

On this day 24 years ago, the boys’ lacrosse team edged Deer Park, 8-6.

The Bears and Falcons were tied at 1-1 after the first quarter, but the Bears notched three goals in the second to take a 4-1 advantage into the break. The Brook held a 5-2 lead entering the fourth, but a 4-1 run by Deer Park tied it up late.

With the game knotted at 6-6 and 1:24 left in the game, Jim Bickley scored an unassisted goal from six yards out to provide the winning margin. Jake Kenney sealed the win 11 seconds later with the last of his 4 goals. Eaghman Banks (2) and Sam Hanchett (1) rounded out the scoring for the Bears while Matt Avitable (6 saves) and Derek Kenney (1) split time in goal.

The Bears went on to win the second of back-to-back County Championships with an 8-7 win over Hills West.
