This afternoon, the girls’ lacrosse team improved to 3-2 in PSAA play with a 19-5 win over Staten Island Academy.
Freshman Morgan Ruggieri paced the Bears with 7 goals while Shannuel Lamptey (4 G), Ava McCormick (3 G/ 1 A), Wura Obasanjo (2 G), Michelle Xuan (1 G/ 1 A), Lulu Ota (1 G), and Nadia Hall (1 G) rounded out a potent scoring attack that buried the Tigers in a 10-0 deficit early and never looked back. Kate DiRuggiero had 5 saves in goal.
This is the first three-game winning streak for the program since a trio of wins spanning March and April of 1996 as the Diane Grimm and Victoria Shields-led Bears downed Walt Whitman (18-10), West Islip (17-16), and Lindenhurst (13-11). The Bears are back in action on Thursday in a non-league match-up with Copiague.
Stony Brook dominated Staten Island Academy, 19-5, to clinch the program’s first three-game winning streak since 1996. This is the Bears’ first varsity program since 2006. Freshman Morgan Ruggerio netted seven goals in the win.
