This afternoon, Jyles Etienne ’17 capped a sensational sophomore indoor season for the Indiana Track & Field team with a 3rd place finish at the Big Ten Championships, held at the University of Michigan.
The former Bear soared over seven feet for the 6th time as a Hoosier, clearing 7′ 1″ to match his season best and break Michigan’s facility record along with two other jumpers.
Etienne passed at 6′ 6″ and 6′ 8″ before clearing 6′ 9.75″ on his second attempt. He then passed at 6′ 11.75″ before clearing 7′ 1″ on his second attempt, joining Nebraska’s Mayson Conner and Miles Griffith as the only three remaining jumpers. Etienne and Griffith both bowed out at 7′ 2.25″, but Etienne lost the tiebreaker by virtue of his attempt at 7′ 1″.
Etienne now looks ahead to the outdoor season which commences on March 16 with the Stan Lyons Invite hosted by Butler University.
