After felling eight school records yesterday, the Bears returned for day two of the Easterns Championships this morning.

Rebecca Crane, Hunter Markowitz, and Madi Sargent all qualified for their individual finals, to add to four individual finals qualifiers from yesterday. Spencer Griffin raced well in the 100 breaststroke despite being narrowly edged out for the last finals spot, and was just 0.42 seconds off of Jean Crousillat’s 1993 school record mark.

Sargent had the Bears’ best swim of the day, shattering her own newly minted school record time while swimming away from the field to win the B final of the 500 freestyle and finish 7th overall. She also earned the distinction of being the fastest freshman in the field.

The ladies finished 18th out of 30 schools with only four competitors, ahead of schools like Blair, Poly Prep, and Middlesex. The boys finished 21st out of 30, also with only four competitors.

…Madi Sargent over a body length in the lead with 150 to go… she’s looking at under a 5:10 swim. This morning she was 5:11.40… Sargent’s got a great rhythm going. She’s been looking much the same for the last four or five laps, hitting her stroke… and I expect to see another similar split right here… 31.15! She’s like a metronome… 100 left… Madi Sargent, 5:11 this morning, looking at a 5:05, maybe even a little bit faster here tonight… Madi Sargent swimming away from the field as she gets the signal from the starter that this is the final lap… Madi Sargent 31.2, another very consistent split… a swimmer from Stony Brook School… going to win this B final going away… the only question now is how fast will she go as she comes underneath the flags and into the wall… Madi Sargent! Touching first in lane 3… in the B final of the women’s 500 yard freestyle.
