Bears Roll Knights, Look Ahead to Playoffs

Yesterday evening, the boys’ basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 65-44 non-league win over Smithtown Christian, topping the Knights for the 23rd time in a row dating back to 1999.

Seamus Scanlon got the scoring started with a steal and layup, but the Knights matched the Bears’ first two buckets to knot the game at 4-4. From there, the Bears unfurled a 14-3 run over the rest of the first quarter to take control of the game for good. Andy D’Alessio’s nine points in the frame paced the Brook.

In the second quarter, a swarming defense and six points from CJ Edwards pushed the Bear margin to 37-15 at the break. A 16-11 third quarter, behind seven points from T. J. Wachter, gave the Brook a 53-26 cushion heading into the fourth. Sam Hou’s acrobatic layup and a beautiful give-and-go between Jerry Li and Josh Aduba highlighted the final frame in which several beloved seniors shone in their final minutes on the Swanson hardwood.

Wachter led a balanced scoring attack with 11 points while Seamus Scanlon (9), D’Alessio (9), Jai Narain (8), Edwards (6), Li (6), Hou (4), Colin Scanlon (4), Aduba (2), Peter Simone (2), Rex Eshirow (2), and Owen Sobel (2) rounded out the scoring.

The Bears now look ahead to the first round of the PSAA playoffs. The 3rd-seeded Bears travel to #2 Martin Luther on Monday at 4:30pm in their 19th consecutive postseason appearance.
