On this day 32 years ago, the boys’ basketball team topped Shelter Island, 72-62, behind 32 points from Doug Alioth.
The Shrikes held a slight 11-10 lead after the first quarter, edging their margin to 33-30 at the half. A 20-16 third quarter gave them a seven-point cushion heading into the fourth where they sent the islanders to their tenth straight loss with a 19-16 frame.
Alioth led all scorers while Blair Cochran added 20 points. Alioth’s performance was one of six times he scored 30 or more points in a game that year, finishing his junior season with a 25.7 scoring average.
