On Saturday night, the boys’ soccer team continued their dominant streak vs. crosstown rival Port Jeff in a 3-2 non-league victory. The Bears have now won nine straight games over the Royals by an aggregate of 42-12.
Caleb Spreckels got the scoring started for the Brook at the 26:29 mark when he won a scrum at the goal mouth, banging home an Owen Sobel ricochet to put the Bears ahead 1-0. Then, with less than 10 minutes in the half, Jai Narain headed home a Mo Romeus cross to give the Bears a 2-0 edge at the break.
Less than 10 minutes into the second half, the Bears were awarded a penalty kick when a Sobel shot hit the outstretched hand of a Royal. Defender Aidan Mega capitalized on the kick for his first career goal that put the Bears ahead 3-0. From that point on the Bears liberally subbed to give some of the younger players meaningful playing time. The reserves proved up to the task of defending the lead.
The Bears take the field again this afternoon in a league match at Waldorf.
