There is plenty of buzz around Jerome Washington ’12 ahead of his senior season at Rutgers University.
He was among ScarletNation.com‘s list of the top 10 Rutgers playmakers coming into 2018. Bobby Deren said of the former Bear:
Senior tight end Jerome Washington led Rutgers last season with 28 catches. His longest reception went for 35 yards and while he is a reliable pass catcher, he is not a guy who is going to rack up huge gains. However, he is going to be a steady and effective pass catcher, who is likely going to amass his share of receptions. Washington became the go-to option on the Rutgers offense last season and he should see a lot of action again this year. A good season should be able to put Washington in a prime position to get selected in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Additionally, 247Sports.com placed him on their list of the top 15 pass catchers in the Big Ten. From Sam Hellman:
Jerome Washington was an unknown in Big Ten circles last year outside of a few key highlights like a “butt catch” last season. He has been far from an unknown at Rutgers, however, as an early top target for Chris Ash as a transfer from Miami. Washington has NFL tight end ability, and will most certainly be the “safety blanket” target for whomever wins the quarterback job. Washington is Rutgers’ best shot at an All-Conference player on offense. Career stats: 29 catches, 295 yards, 1 touchdown.
Washington and the Scarlet Knights open the season on September 1 vs. Texas State.
