Yesterday afternoon, the boys’ and girls’ badminton teams earned key league victories over visiting Lindenhurst, edging the Bulldogs 5-4 in each match.
The ladies won four of the five singles matches as Masha Volovaya (11-3, 11-3), Judy Liu (11-2, 13-12), Elena Chen (11-5, 11-9), and Nancy Man (11-0, 8-11, 11-5) earned victories while Melody Li and Leslie Kang (15-3, 15-6) earned a key doubles win.
The boys also dominated the singles matches behind Jerry Liu (15-8, 15-5), Tony Yu (15-7, 15-6), Kevin Zhang (15-5, 15-4), and David Wang (15-5, 15-3). Sam Han and Sam Wong (15-12, 15-12) won their third doubles match to give the Brook the edge.
With the win, the boys improve to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in League II where they stand alone in 1st place over Smithtown East and Walt Whitman, who are both at 4-2. The girls improve to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in League II where they are alone in 2nd place behind undefeated Walt Whitman (6-0). The girls have now won more games this season than in their previous three years combined, in which the team went 7-43.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon in a match-up at Smithtown West.
