This afternoon, the boys’ tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 6-1 win over West Islip in a mandatory non-league match. The Bears are off to their best start since the 2015 team began the season 9-1 on their way to the League Championship.
The Bears once again benefited from outstanding singles play as Brandon Gicquel (6-0, 6-0), Steven Ou (6-0, 6-1), and Wensan Yin (6-2, 6-0) dominated their matches. The Brook picked up the fourth singles win by forfeit.
In doubles, Alan Wang and Andy Liu (6-4, 6-6 (8-6)) and Jake Macaspac and Clement Leung (6-2, 6-4) earned victories.
The Bears are currently in 2nd place in League V with a 3-1 record with their only loss coming at the hands of league leader Ward Melville (4-0). The Bears are back in action on April 11 at home vs. Sachem.
