Action from the ’71 wrestling season

On this day 47 years ago, the wrestling team secured their third Ivy League Championship in four years by taking the annual tournament hosted by Trinity.

Pierre Belanger (141 lbs) earned an 8-4 decision over Giunta of New York Military Academy, Sib George (158 lbs) won 9-6 over Trinity’s Powell, and Ken Berg (Heavyweight) won 4-1 over Paroli of New York Military Academy to earn individual Ivy crowns.

Nick Aponte (115 lbs), Mark Bleecker (129 lbs), Richard Burke (135 lbs), Al Mathis (148 lbs), Ernie Wruck (170 lbs), and Mike Malkmes (188 lbs) all earned runner-up finishes for the Brook to pad the team lead.

The title capped a second consecutive undefeated Ivy League season for the Brook.
