Yesterday afternoon, the boys’ soccer team topped Mercy, 5-4, in the penultimate match of the regular season. It was a decidedly different outcome than the 7-1, rain-shortened drubbing they handed the Monarchs on September 19 as Mercy was back to full strength after recovering several injured players.
The Bears held a commanding 4-2 lead at the half, but Mercy closed to within 4-3 to maintain distance. Jai Narain scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 60th minute, courtesy of an assist from Tiger Winston, that extended the cushion back to 5-3. Mercy would add a score late, but would get no closer as the Bears improved to 8-5 on the season. The Bears are 6-0 all-time vs. Mercy.
Chris Swiatek finished with a goal and 2 assists, Narain notched 2 goals, Mo Romeus scored a goal, and Owen Sobel notched an assist. Sam Han made 7 saves between the posts.
The Bears are back on the field this afternoon in the final match of the season at Greenport.
