On Thursday, Joe Wozny was one of 54 players from across the nation selected for the Team USA 15U trials which begin on July 30th at the National Training Complex in Cary, NC. The initial roster will swell to 72 participants after the 14U National Team Development Program, be reduced to 34 after the first cut, then further trimmed to 20 after the second phase of tryouts on August 2nd.

Once the roster is finalized the National Team will travel to Cartegena, Colombia for the 2017 COPABE Pan Am Games, an event the United States has won the last two years. Players are chosen for the trials from the 15U National Team Championships, the USA Baseball 14U National Team Identification Series, the National Team Development Program, and recommendations from professional scouts, as well as college and high school coaches.

Wozny had an impressive freshman campaign in his first year with the Bears, bringing tremendous experience to the team despite his youth. On the mound he earned 3 wins, 65 strikeouts, a 2.91 ERA, and a 1.34 WHIP in 31.1 innings of work. He was equally prolific at the plate, recording 9 RBIs, 13 walks, 12 runs, and a .908 OPS while striking out a team-low 8 times. Additionally, he led the team in hits (19), batting average (.380), and on base percentage (.508). His contributions helped the Bears get out to their best start since 1995 and its most wins since 1999.

Wozny has stayed busy since the close of his high school season. On Thursday he helped his Team Elite squad win the Perfect Game BCS Championship in Fort Meyers, FL. Three days earlier he pitched three no-hit innings for Team Elite while hitting 85 mph on the radar gun.
