This week, the New York State Sportswriters Association named its 2016 All-State Girls’ Soccer Team. Senior Morgan Pius closed her career with a third All-State nod, joining Karina Scavo (2006-2008) and Danielle Pappas (2008-2010) as the only girls’ soccer players to earn a three-time distinction.
Morgan earned a place on the All-State Fourth Team to put a cap on a brilliant six-year varsity career during which the Bears earned two Suffolk County Class C titles. Her ball control and shooting accuracy made her one of the deadliest offensive threats in the county, but she often subjugated her own desires for the good of the team. On many occasions she found herself in goal in order to give her team the best opportunity to win.
Her sacrifice and competitiveness made an even greater impact on the team over the years than her 30 career goals. She will be missed.
