
Yesterday afternoon, on Sunken Meadow State Park’s 2.8-mile course, the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams opened their seasons with victories over Babylon.
The girls were paced by Miranda Harrigan’s victory in a time of 18:56. Cianka Haynes and Anna Brummeler tied for 3rd place in 21:00, while Dani Sivertsen (6th/23:00) and Meghan Hutzler (7th/23:54) rounded out the scoring for the Bears who topped Babylon, 21-41.
The boys ran in a tri-meet with Sayville and Babylon. While the Bears fell to the Phantoms, they easily outpaced the Panthers in the overall team score: Sayville (21), Stony Brook (39), Babylon (78). Louis Wang was the Bears’ top finisher, placing 3rd overall in his first cross country race in a time of 18:05. Justin Moreno (6th/18:20), Hyun Cho (7th/18:22), Randy Li (11th/19:10), and seventh-grader Aidan Harrigan (12th/19:12) scored for the Brook.
