On this day 87 years ago, the basketball team earned a thrilling 31-29 victory over Port Jeff in four overtimes.

The Brook had beaten Port Jeff 53-15 earlier in the season and may have anticipated a similar result, but Port Jeff took a 10-6 lead into halftime, serving notice that this time would be different. The Brookers chipped away at the lead throughout the second half before eventually tying the score at 17-17 midway through the fourth quarter. The Blue and White then surged past their rivals with two straight baskets to take a commanding four-point edge late in the game. However, Port Jeff’s Gaynor extended the evening by sinking two deep shots in the waning seconds to send the game into overtime at 21-21.

Port Jeff took early leads in each of the three overtime periods, but each time the Brook refused to let the game slip away as Doc Taylor, John Bradshaw, and Will Woodruff each extended the game with equalizing scores. With three seconds left in the third overtime and Port Jeff holding a 27-25 lead, Woodruff sank a full court shot to electrify the crowd and send the game into a fourth overtime period.

In the final overtime period the Brookers scored twice and finally staved off the locals to claim the memorable win.
