The Kingsmen found no refuge in Swanson Gymnasium

On this day 6 years ago, the girls’ basketball team smothered Kings Park in their season opener.

The Bears’ defense, spearheaded by Andraya Spiliotis and Candace Baker, stifled the Class A Kingsmen while Danielle Spiliotis, Sadie Singer, and Brannon Burke powered the offense in a 46-28 triumph. Spiliotis finishes with 21 points and 7 rebounds while Brannon Burke garnered a triple-double with 12 points and 10 boards. The key moment of the game was a 12-2 run during the first half that left the Brook up 27-13, giving them control they would not relinquish.

The win opened the greatest season in the program’s illustrious history. The girls would go on to win a fifth straight League Championship, a fourth straight County Championship, the second Long Island Championship in three years, and the program’s first Regional Championship and berth in the State Final Four. Their 18 wins were second most in team history to that point.
