The 1940-41 cagers

On this day 74 years ago, the basketball team won its season opener in a 31-24 triumph over Bayport. The Brookers dominated the first half, leading 18-6 at the break, and held off the visitors to earn their first win of the year. “Long John” Deahl led all scorers with 17 points while Phil Ahrenhold and John Ryder anchored the defense.

Bayport was greatly handicapped by the superior size of the Stony Brook players.
