The Bears | Fischer (Back, 3rd from left)

On this day 18 years ago the boys basketball team clinched the League VIII Championship with a 68-45 win over Port Jeff, the program’s 1st League Title since 1975.  It was also coach Mike Hickey’s 1st title followed by banners for 1994, 2003, 2005 and 2007.  The Bears burst out of the gates with 40 1st half points, 17 of which came from Jonas Fischer, the 9th highest scorer in Suffolk County with 20 points per game.  Fischer led all scorers with 27 points.

Jonas Fischer scored 17 of Stony Brook’s 40 first-half points and finished with 27 points as the Bears (11-2) clinched the League VIII title with a 68-45 victory over Port Jefferson. Stony Brook won its first league title in 19 years, according to coach Mike Hickey.
