Bears Walk Off vs. Babylon

On Wednesday afternoon, just 24 hours after dispatching Babylon in a 9-4 win, the Bears won a taut rematch with the Panthers on Jeff Adams Field on Senior Day.

Matthew Ramirez started on the mound for the Bears and needed just 10 pitches to induce a trio of ground outs for a 1-2-3 top of the 1st. The Bears scored two in the bottom half, beginning when Aiden Ruiz led off with a single and Juju Martinez walked. Jojo Franco followed with a ground out that allowed Ruiz to score, thanks to some heady baserunning. Jordan Serrano singled two pitches later to plate Martinez with a 2-0 lead.

Ramirez threw a scoreless 2nd, and Alex Baaden followed with two scoreless innings as the game moved to the top of the 5th with The Brook maintaining a 2-0 edge. But in the 5th, the Panthers knotted the game at 2-2 following three straight walks, a wild pitch, and an error. Aaron Diaz and Mateo Lopez were called on to shut down Babylon, doing just that by throwing 2.2 scoreless innings and giving the Bears a chance to walk off in the last of the 7th.

In the 7th, Serrano drew a one-out walk, then stole second and third during the same at bat, to set up an Isaiah Gibbs sacrifice fly to left that brought him in with the winning run. Lopez earned the win with a scoreless inning of work, while Franco, Serrano, and Gibbs each notched an RBI.
