On Friday evening, the girls’ basketball team completed the seventh undefeated league season in program history with a 60-17 win at Martin Luther. The team achieved the feat last year and accomplished it five additional times in the NYSPHSAA in 1998, 2006, 2007, 2009, and 2010.
The Bears raced out to a 23-5 lead after the first quarter behind Jocelyn McCrain’s 11 points and Niamh Scanlon’s 8. The Brook pushed their margin out to 34-6 by halftime as McCrain added another 7 points.
Scanlon scored 13 of the Bears’ 15 points in the third quarter as they carried a 49-15 lead into the fourth quarter on the way to victory. McCrain’s career-high 23 points led the way for the Bears. Niamh Scanlon (15 points), Ava McCormick (9), Quinn Davey (8), Soraya Carrano (3), and Myla Lombardo (2) completed the Blue & White attack.
With the regular season title now in their rearview, the Bears look ahead to the playoffs. They open postseason play on Tuesday night at 6:00pm when they host #4 Portledge in the semifinals of the PSAA tournament.
