Yesterday evening, the boys’ basketball team traveled to Hampton Bays for a match-up with an old NYSPHSAA foe. The Class A Baymen came into the game with a 6-0 record and an average scoring mark of 82.2 points per game. Their lowest output of the season came in a 69-51 win over Shoreham-Wading River, but the Bears brought their tenacious brand of defense to the East End and held the Baymen 39 points below their average in a 48-43 win.
The Bears outscored their hosts 14-7 in the first frame and took a 26-15 lead into halftime. Hampton Bays won the final two quarters, 16-12 and 12-10, but the Bears were simply too tough down the stretch for the Baymen.
Nate Small led all scorers with 18 points while Charlie Onana Awana scored 5 and pulled down 12 rebounds. Andreas Simoni added 8 points, Osazee Alapa 8, Niks Zemitis 4, Orlando Morris 3, and Randolph Logan 2.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday afternoon in the Campus Magnet Showcase.
