Yesterday afternoon, the girls’ lacrosse team showed the full spectrum of its powers in recording the first shutout in program history by blanking Columbia Prep, 20-0, to improve to 5-0 in PSAA play.
Sydneyanna Giardini scored an unassisted goal just 49 seconds into the game and by the 13:30 mark the Brook already had a 10-0 lead and a running clock for the remainder of the afternoon. The Blue & White carried a 16-0 lead into the half before cruising to the win.
The Bears’ entire offensive arsenal was on display from the first draw as four different players (Giardini, Mia Trama, Morgan Ruggieri, and Alexis Savage) scored the first five goals and nine different Bears would eventually find the net. Ruggieri and Trama each notched 4 goals and 2 assists to lead the offense while Natalia Pagano (3G/ 2A), Alexandra Puopolo (3G/ 1A), Savage (2G/ 4A), Michelle Xuan (1G/ 1A), Giardini (1G), Georgia Apazidis (1G), and Fiona Rivas (1G) kept the Lion defense breathless all afternoon.
On the other end, Emily Berger recorded 3 saves to anchor the defensive unit of Apazidis, Christy Eugene, Tiffany Akinyoade, Nikki Carlo, and Caroline Cho that seemed to swallow up the Columbia attack every time it crossed the restraining line.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday when they head to Poly Prep for clash with our old Ivy League rivals.
