Shanks

On this day 28 years ago, Dan Shanks ’92 was named the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player for Coker College, becoming the first player in league history to win both awards in the same season. That season he averaged 21.8 points per game while shooting 48.8% from the field.

Shanks went on to lead Coker to a #14 national ranking in 1995, three conference championship appearances, and one title. He remains second on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,895 points and still holds school records for highest scoring average (21.8), most points (610), and highest free throw percentage (93.0) in a season as well as the highest career scoring average (18.9). His performance earned him four All-Region and All-Conference nods along with an All-American honor. In 2007, Shanks was named to the CVAC All-time team.
