On Thursday afternoon, Swanson Natatorium came alive once again as the boys’ swim team topped East Hampton, 52-40, in a non-league victory to open their season.
The Bears took 1st place in seven of the eight individual events as well as all three relays. Double-winners for the Brook included Sam Specht in the 200 free (2:02.81) and 500 free (5:23.27), Hugo MacDonald in the 200 individual medley (2:20.85) and 100 butterfly (1:02.58), and Oliver Griffin in the 100 free (54.20) and the 100 breaststroke (1:10.19). Gavin Paton added a victory in the 100 backstroke (1:04.77).
In the relays, Specht, Griffin, MacDonald, and Paton joined forces to win the 200 medley (1:51.21) and 400 free (3:49.76) relays while Daniel Schelle, Phillip Kong, Daniel Thiele, and James Wigington took the 200 free relay in 1:51.13.
Coach Laura Donlevy was very pleased with how the Bears competed today: “We had several incredible moments of strength throughout the meet. Our last four events were amazing. In all four events our team came from behind to beat East Hampton’s swimmers. When we were most tired, we rose up together. Every member of our team played a role today. I have no doubt that the swimmers in the water were inspired by the loud cheering of their teammates and fans to push themselves past their opponents.”
The Bears return to the water tomorrow in a non-league match-up at Lindenhurst.
