Audige Returns to Lead Northwestern Past Maryland

Audige in action last year

After missing the first seven games of the season with a hip injury, Chase Audige ’17 returned to the court on Sunday to lead the Northwestern men’s basketball team to a 67-61 victory over Maryland in their Big Ten opener.

The redshirt junior scored 14 points and hit every column of the box score with 4 rebounds and 3 assists, plus a block and a steal in 26 minutes of action. Audige helped give the Wildcats some breathing room midway through the second half with back-to-back jumpers to outpace the Terrapins in College Park.

The most significant development on Sunday was the return of junior guard Chase Audige, the Cats’ leading scorer in the 2020-21 season. Audige had missed NU’s first seven games with a hip injury, but looked fully healthy in his 2021-22 debut. The former William & Mary guard made a crisp cut to the basket and drove in for an uncontested dunk and his first points of the season. Later in the half, Audige made a clean block, charged down the floor and scored on a physical lay-in in the paint.
