Track Teams Repeat as PSAA Champions

May 17, 2021

Friday afternoon marked the return of the PSAA Track & Field Championships to the Marvin W. Goldberg track, ending a span of 743 days since the Bears last hosted our league’s culminating event in 2019. Though the 31st edition of the PSAA Championships was smaller in scale than in past years, a warm, sun-splashed day brought an energy to the track not felt in quite some time, carrying numerous athletes to memorable performances.

The girls easily repeated as champions, scoring 122 points to Long Island Lutheran’s 42 and Kew-Forest’s 15. On the boys’ side, the Bears racked up 150 points to easily distance themselves from Long Island Lutheran (26) and Kew-Forest (7). Incredibly, the boys took 1st place in every single event as well as all three relays while the girls won all but one individual event and the two relays they chose to enter.

Some of the highlights of the day included Colin Scanlon breaking his own meet record in the 400 hurdles (57.89) despite running by himself, Scarlett Davey taking the lead in the 400 on the final turn, and David Song overtaking the leader on the backstretch of the 400 on the way to the title.

Mo Romeus earned the meet MVP for the boys by winning the 100, 200, and triple jump while running the leadoff leg for the 4×100 relay team. Sarah Wong won the MVP for the girls after winning individual crowns in the 800, 3000, 400 hurdles, and helping the 4×400 relay team to victory.
