The first boys’ tennis match in 710 days was worth the wait as the Bears prevailed in a thriller, 3-2.
This afternoon’s match vs. Staten Island Academy was knotted at 2-2 and the first doubles tandem of Jovan Haynes and Jaden Lee was staring at match point while trailing 4-7 in the first-to-eight pro set format. With their backs firmly pressed against the wall, they battled back by winning the final five games of the match to take the win and give the Bears the 3-2 edge in the match.
Jake Macaspac was sharp in his first singles match, winning 8-2, while Clement Leung and Jonathan Hell overcame a slow start to cruise in second doubles, 8-4.
The Bears are back in action on Monday in a home match-up with Long Island Lutheran.
