Wozny & Wachter Named Pre-Season All-Long Island

Yesterday, Axcess Baseball released its Pre-Season All-Long Island list and senior Joe Wozny and junior T.J. Wachter were each included among the island’s best.

Wozny, who committed to UConn in the fall, was named to the Second Team’s pitching stable. A year ago his 4 wins tied for the team lead with Wachter while he led the staff with 48 strikeouts in 25.1 innings as the Bears charged through the PSAA to claim the regular season title. In the PSAA Championship against Portledge, the big righty struck out 11 over six shutout innings, yielding just 3 hits to silence the Panther offense. For his efforts, he was named the PSAA East Division MVP. Wozny is also #12 on Axcess Baseball’s Class of 2020 Top Prospects list for Long Island.

Wachter also registered 4 wins on the mound while whiffing 42 batters over 22.1 innings. His 4 home runs tied for the Long Island private school lead and his .484 batting average led the team. His 17 RBIs were second only to Wozny’s 19. In the PSAA Championship, his pair of tape-measure home runs led the Bears to a 10-0 win and gave him Tournament MVP honors.

In the first round of the NYSAIS playoffs, the Fordham-bound righty dominated Hackley on the mound and in the batter’s box. He pitched a complete game two-hitter, striking out 11 and allowing just one earned run over 7.0 innings. He added a hit, a walk, and 2 RBIs at the plate, including a third inning two-run home run. Wozny added a three-run double in the 6-1 win.

The Bears have a strong schedule in front of them this spring including Charlotte Christian (NC), Baylor (TN), Bob Jones (AL), Enid (OK), St. Anthony’s, and Poly Prep.
