Today, Jyles Etienne ’17 was named Indiana University’s Scholar-Athlete of the Month. According to the university, the recognition is “awarded to the male and female student-athlete during the academic year. Recipients are selected for demonstrating academic improvement and excellence; positive reports from faculty, tutors or advising staff; and showing initiative and motivation in their academic endeavors.”
Etienne, who is majoring in Cinema and Media Arts,
has made great progress in his academic performance over the past three years. It was an adjustment for him to get used to being at a school in a different country as he worked toward finding his niche in the Media School. He has consistently made improvements in his grades each term and has hit his stride this year earning his career high GPA for fall 2019. I am very proud of the hard work Jyles has put into his courses and it has paid off as he made the Executive Dean’s List for the College of Arts & Sciences for fall 2019. I know Jyles will continue to perform at a high level as he continues to progress in his degree program. I look forward to seeing his continued success on the field and in the classroom.
Etienne is currently ranked 3rd in the nation in the high jump after a career best 7′ 3.75″ at the Hoosier Open in December.
