The ’83 track & field squad
On this day 36 years ago, the boys’ track team tied for the League VIII title with a 116-26 win over Greenport/Southold.
The Shrikes fell to La Salle in the opening meet of the year, 72-78, but closed the season with six straight victories to finish in a three-way tie for the championship with La Salle and Hampton Bays at 6-1.
Richard Alioth (400 hurdles), Andy Hoffman (3200) Pierre Lawrence (100 & 200), Ward Regan (110 hurdles), Paul Sanford (400 hurdles), John Shannon (3200), and Richard Wittman (800) all placed in the ’83 Conference Championship and were consistent scorers for the Blue & White.
The league title was the 3rd in a row for a team that went on to win eight league crowns in the 80’s.
