On this day 39 years ago, the Lockerbies helped the University of North Carolina men’s track team turn back Duke, Wake Forest, and Campbell in a quad-meet at the Tin Can in Chapel Hill.

Don ’75 won the 1,000 in 2:12.3 while Kevin ’77 joined forces with Broderick Bennett, Wayne Miller, and Sam Brown to win the mile relay in 3:18.2, giving the Tar Heels two of their ten event victories. UNC racked up 85.5 points to easily top Duke (29), Campbell (22), and Wake (16).

Later that season, Kevin and the mile relay team went on to reset the school record with a scorching time of 3:13.9.
