The 1954-55 basketball squad

On this day 64 years ago, the basketball team swamped Friends Academy, 70-29. Here is the recap from Newsday:

Makeshift ‘5’ Routed

Stony Brook — Locust Valley Friends played without four of its regulars and went down to a 70-29 walloping before Stony Brook School here Saturday.

The Academy was without top scorer Rick Randall, who was ill, and Tom Bentien, Pete Klinge, and John Galbraith, who were at the Buck Hill Falls (PA) Quaker Conference.

It was the biggest romp of the season for Stony Brook which moved out to a 13-6 lead at the quarter and upped the margin the rest of the way. Scoring honors went to Denny Fiedler, who scored 12 of his 17 points in the winners’ 23-point final period.

The Brookers won the rematch on March 2, 62-44.
