On this day 21 years ago, the boys’ swim team finished 2nd at the League III Invitational, held at Central Islip, behind two 1st place finishes from Steve Shapiro.
The sophomore took top marks in the 200 freestyle (1:54.30) and the 500 freestyle (5:09.06) in dominant fashion, besting the competition by over 15 seconds in the 200 and over 38 seconds in the 500.
Additionally, the Bears turned in five 2nd place finishes and a 3rd place finish to close out a strong showing. Josh Moore (200 individual medley – 2:33.63), Brad Steinke (50 free – 23.53), Bill Fick (100 free – 54.43 & 100 back – 1:01.86), and Ray Houseknecht (100 breast – 1:13.47) earned runner-up places for the Brook while Steinke added a 3rd place finish in the 100 free (56.84). Blue & White relay teams also finished runner-up in the 200 free (1:39.18) and 400 free (3:45.60) as the Bears finished 2nd at the meet behind the massive conglomeration of Central Islip/Brentwood/Commack.
