On Friday night, the girls’ basketball team defeated the Waldorf School, 41-12, to improve to 9-1 in PSAA play. They remain in first place in the PSAA East Division. The win gave the Bears their sixth win in a row, a feat last accomplished in 2013, the last time they also won at least nine games in a season.
Sarah Hull and Beth Felix staked the Brook to an early 4-0 lead before a 3-point play from Niamh Scanlon and a 3-pointer from Felix gave the Bears a 10-3 lead after one. In the second quarter, the Bear defense reared its head as they shutout the Wolverines while seizing control with 14 points of their own. The Blue & White nabbed four steals and blocked two shots while Scanlon powered the offense with a pair of threes. Liz Robbins added a jumper while Nadia Hall and Bekah Detwiler added layups as the Brook took a 24-3 lead into the break.
In the third quarter, the Bears outscored Waldorf 12-5, thanks to eight points and two steals from Scanlon, before closing with a 5-4 final frame.
Scanlon scored a game-high 18 points while Felix (7), Hall (4), Detwiler (4), Hull (4), Robbins (2), and Wura Obasanjo (2) rounded out the scoring.
The Bears are back in action on Friday in a non-league match-up at Hampton Bays.
