Brookers Subdue Hilltoppers, 30-21
Northport High’s basketball team suffered its second successive loss Saturday when it dropped a 21-30 decision to Stony Brook School, which climbed above the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Played on the Brookers’ court, the game was a slam-bang affair from the opening whistle until the final period when the home team put on a final spurt to notch its nine point triumph. Both teams held the lead in many instances during the course of the game, the Hilltoppers leading 3-2 at the close of the first period, and Brookers holding sway, 8-5, at the half and then both teams went into a deadlock at the close of the third quarter at 16-all.
Bill Seaver and Dick Vurture led the Brookers to their second triumph in three outings with 12 and 11 points each. Seaver racked-up six field goals and Vurture clocked for four buckets and three free throws.
