Yesterday evening, the 17th-ranked Stony Brook University football team obliterated #22 Rhode Island, 52-14, in front of a LaValle Stadium record crowd of 12,701.
Don Liotine ’13 racked up a game-high 119 yards rushing on 17 carries, his fifth 100-yard game of the season and ninth of his career. His backfield teammate, Jordan Gowins, ran up 117 yards, marking the fourth time this season the dynamic duo has each eclipsed 100 yards in the same game to tie a Stony Brook record.
We’re playing fundamentally sound, excited football. We know we could control every game with the run game. We have a great quarterback, too. It’s not difficult for us to play well if we do our assignments. We have the players around us to make plays.
~ Liotine to Newsday
Additionally, Liotine’s gains moved him up to 5th on Stony Brook all-time rushing list with 2,462 yards and 4th on the all-time all-purpose yards list with 3,556. He scored a third quarter touchdown that gave him 20 for his career, good enough for 7th on the Seawolves’ career rushing TD list.
Up next for Liotine and the Seawolves is a trip to Virginia next Saturday to face #5 James Madison.
