On this day 54 years ago, Robin Lingle ’60 broke the Hayward Field 1500m record at the NCAA Championships held at the University of Oregon. The former Brooker ran 3:45.6, the fastest time in the preliminaries, to reset the previous top mark of 3:45.7 set by Oregon’s Dylan Burleson in 1960.

In the 1500m final, Lingle ran 3:42.0 to finish 5th overall, setting the University of Missouri record in the process.
