Lingle at the Penn Relays during his memorable career at Missouri

On this day 54 years ago, Robin Lingle ’60 broke the Hayward Field 1500 record at the NCAA Championships held at the University of Oregon. The former Brooker ran 3:45.6, the fastest time in the preliminaries, to reset the previous top mark of 3:45.7 set by Oregon’s Dylan Burleson in 1960.

In the 1500 final, Lingle ran 3:42.0 to finish 5th overall, setting the University of Missouri record in the process.
