On this day 16 years ago, Hannah Powlison broke the school record in the 800 meters at the Suffolk County Championships.

The sophomore ran 2:17.7, slicing nearly four seconds off the previous mark set by Anne Shybunko in 1989. Powlison eventually reset her own record to 2:17.5, which remains the top Stony Brook mark to this day.
