On this day 15 years ago, Juanita Gonzalez pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead the softball team to a 7-3 win over Port Jeff.
The Royals jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the 1st inning, thanks to a pair of errors, and tacked on another run in the 3rd to take a 3-1 lead. From there, Gonzalez kept Port Jeff at bay while the Bear offense woke up. After an RBI from Brittany Commins in the 4th inning cut the deficit to 3-2, the Brook took the lead for good with three runs in the 5th, powered by a two-run single from Danielle Carniaux.
Gonzalez would go on to finish her career with 1,153 strikeouts to break the Long Island record.
