On this day 69 years ago, Robert Graham was named the Ivy League Basketball Player of the Year after leading the Brook to the program’s first Ivy League title.
Here is the article from the Patchogue Advance:
Robert Graham of the Stony Brook School’s basketball team was named the most valuable player of the Ivy Preparatory Schools league last Thursday at a league meeting in the Central YMCA, Brooklyn.
Both Graham and teammate, Paul Koble, were named on the All-Ivy league first team, and John Luft, another Stony Brook player, was awarded a place on the second team.
As the most valuable player, Graham will receive the Hollis Sports Memorial trophy, in addition to the certificate awarded to each player selected on the All-Ivy league team.
Floyd Johnson’s boys finished 15-2 that season, the most victories for the team since the 1937-38 squad went 18-2.
