On this day 14 years ago, Jon O’Haire ’77 was named the USA Hockey National Field Hockey Coach of the Year. Here is the press release from Penn State University where O’Haire was the assistant field hockey coach at the time.

Penn State’s assistant field hockey coach Jon O’Haire was named the USA Field Hockey National Coach of the Year after a stellar 2003 season as the USA men’s field hockey goalkeeper coach. He is now in the running for 2003 United States Olympic Committee Coach of the Year.

A former USA National Team goalkeeper from 1982-95, O’Haire served on the USA Pan American Games coaching staff in 2003 where his goalkeepers recorded two shutouts en route to a 3-1-1 record and a fifth place Pan Am finish. In addition, the team captured the Super Division title at the 2003 Cal Cup and earned a second place finish at the Pan American Cup Qualifying Tournament.

O’Haire has been active in development programs for USA Field Hockey as well, and has worked as a goalkeeper specialist coach at the Women’s National A and B Camps for the last three years.

At Penn State, O’Haire just finished his fourth season as an assistant under head coach Char Morrett working primarily with the team’s goalkeepers. He has been instrumental in the development of senior Annie Zinkavich, who has been named a two-time first-team All-Mid-East goalkeeper.
